Audio Books

While driving or riding in a car, flying across country, or relaxing at home, audio books are a great way to "read" the classics or enjoy a new bestseller.

There are several places online where one can find free books to download for an MP3 player.  Here is a selection of the best:

Librivox - Without a doubt, the best source of free audiobooks.

Project Gutenberg - Another great site for audio books (and printed ones as well). Browse by author, title, even langauage!

Free Classic Audiobooks - Just as the name says - FREE audio classics.

Podiobooks - an interesting way to get audio books; they offer complete books in episodic form so you can get just a chapter at a time via RSS or by iTunes; in addition, you can simply click and listen to a story online.

Learn Out Loud - one-stop for audio and video learning, with over 15,000 educational audio books, MP3 downloads, podcasts, and videos.

Lit2Go - A free online collection of stories and poems in Mp3 format where you can download files to your Mp3 player, listen to the Mp3 files on your computer, view the text on a webpage and read along as you listen, print out the stories and poems to make your own book. From the Florida Educational Technology Clearinghouse.

Books Should Be Free - A dozen plus categories to choose free audio books from, anything from Anthropology to War.

Booksfree.com offers you an inexpensive way to "read" the most current titles available - you rent them. It is Netflix for readers!
