Literary PodCasts

According to Wikipedia, podcasting is a "method of publishing audio broadcasts via the Internet." In other words, it's a way for individuals and companies to create audio programs (for the old-fashioned, think radio) which people can download, listen to, and subscribe to. Although the word "podcast" often conjures visions and thoughts of iPod. Many who create this content are hoping that other names will catch on. Terms like webcast, netcast, and blogcast are really more suited, as you do not need an iPod to take advantage of this type of media over the internet. These broadcasts are possible through RSS (Really Simple Syndication), the technology which makes subscribing for ongoing content easy. It allows you to have content downloaded to your computer or portable audio player.

There are a number of ways to listen to podcasts. Many "Podcatcher" applications are available. These allow different options for subscribing and listening to podcasts. Some of the most popular include Juice (Free), Doppler (Free, Good for non-iPod portable players), and ITunes. For online access, you can try Odeo, or download podcasts directly to your computer in MP3 format, where available. You can then choose to open the podcast with your computer's mp3 player and save the podcast on your hard drive.
